Two arrested on heroin charges

Two Rockford men were arrested Nov. 30 in Byron on charges that they sold heroin to an undercover police operative.

Andre T. Hawkins, 33, and Harvey L. Smith, 50. Both were charged with unlawful delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a church. Ogle County Sheriff Michael Harn said announced the arrests Dec. 3.

A press release from Harn said the two were involved in the sale of 15 bags of heroin.

Both are being held in lieu of bond in the Ogle County Jail.

Harn said more arrests are pending in a separate but similar case.
