Published: Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 12:12 p.m. CDT

Oregon VFW Post #8739 will make and deliver Christmas Food Baskets to families and needy individuals in the Oregon area again this year.

Volunteers will make up the baskets on Dec. 21 and 22 deliver them Dec. 22 from approximately 8 a.m. until noon.

Any family or individual who is in need may call the VFW at 815-732-6851 Monday through Saturday from 7:30 to 9 a.m. or 3:30 to 6 p.m. and have their name placed on the list for a basket.

Each individual or family must provide their complete name, address and phone number to have a basket delivered and someone must be home on the morning of Dec. 22 to receive the basket. If no one will be home, someone will need to make arrangements to pick up the basket at the VFW on Dec.22.

In addition, even if you have received a VFW basket at Christmas time in previous years, you must still call in again this year to be placed on the list.

The deadline for calling in to have a name placed on the list for a food basket was Friday, Dec. 14.

Post #8739 provides more than 175 food baskets for area residents. Therefore, donations from the general public to the Christmas basket program are always accepted, appreciated and needed for the program to continue.

Also, anyone wishing to help deliver baskets may also contact the VFW.
