Eighth grader Naomi Nakajima won the final round of the National Geography Bee competition Dec. 6 at David L. Rahn Junior High School.
Anthony Marchetti, also in the eighth grade, came in second.
Seventh grade finalists were Rey Carenno, Jaspreet Gill, Meredith Gelander, Olympia Powell, and Sarah Palmer.
Finalists from the eighth grade were Nakajima, Marchetti, Jacob Cox, Rosie Sarantakos, and Sean Zeciri. Finalists were treated to donuts and juice following the competition.
"Naomi has taken the written test, the next round of the competition, in hopes of qualifying for the state championship bee to be held this spring," said social studies teacher Joanne Pennock. "State champions will qualify for national competition to be held in Washington, DC."
College scholarships are awarded to the winners.
Previous DLR students who have qualified for the state level were Sarah Troutman, Julie Ebens and Ben Baldwin.
