Comments (...)Ricky Lee (Rick) Barnes, 63, died and peacefully entered into the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 while at his home in San Angelo, Texas with his family by his side.
Ricky was courageous and strong during his two and a half years battle with cancer.
He was born Dec. 13, 1949 in Burlington, Iowa.
He graduated from high school in Polo in 1969 where he was football captain and homecoming king.
This is where he got his start in the newspaper industry working along-side his father, Ron, at the Polo Tri- County Press.
He married the love of his life, Teresa Price on July 2, 1988. They shared a passion for sunset walks on the beach in northern California, traveling, concerts, the Green Bay Packers, hiking and camping.
Together they have a daughter, Jessica, 21, who was the pride and joy of his life and gave Rick strength to carry on.
Rick’s life career was centered around the newspaper and advertising industries.
He worked with a variety of papers starting with the Tri-County Press in Polo; then assistant publisher of the Glenwood Opinion Tribune in Glenwood, Iowa; advertising director of the Ft. Bragg Advocate News in Ft. Bragg, Calif.; advertising director for Gannett Publishing in Green Bay, Wis.; advertising director for the San Angelo Standard Times, and publisher in Edmond, Okla. and Algona, Iowa.
Rick’s hobbies included fishing, golfing, hiking, old westerns, and he loved to sit and have good talks with friends and strangers who were just friends he had never met.
Rick is survived by his wife, Teresa Barnes; and daughter, Jessica Barnes, both of San Angelo, Texas; parents, Ron and Marcella Barnes, Evergreen, Colo.; sister, Paula, Evergreen, Colo.; brother, Brent and niece Elise, Denver, Colo.
A celebration of his life was held at the family home. His ashes will be scattered at the top of Pike’s Peak in Colorado and Cleone Beach in Ft. Bragg, Calif.
Arrangements were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home, Grape Creek, Texas.
The family is grateful for the compassion extended to Rick by so many physicians, nurses, family, friends and neighbors.
Dr. Robert Prieto and staff were especially important to Rick throughout his journey with cancer.
Baptist Hospice’s kindness and generosity was greatly appreciated by the family.
Debbie Davis’ sincere compassion with Rick and the family was truly a comfort.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Baptist Hospice, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, or the American Cancer Society.
Proverbs 3: 5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.
