Robert D. Long

Robert "Bob" Duane Long, 85,  Oregon, was promoted to glory Saturday, March 9, 2013 from Oregon Living and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born February 22, 1928 in Harmon, the son of John D. and Muriel (Stoffregen) Long. He was the youngest of 10 children.

Bob graduated from Oregon High School as valedictorian in 1946.

He worked at Rockford Products Corporation and then as an industrial engineer at Borg Warner, Dixon.   
He married Carol Knutsen on Aug. 9, 1961.

He was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church. Bob loved the Lord, his family, and many friends with his whole heart.  
He prayed with and for many. He participated with his wife in Elijah House Prayer Ministry Schools, prayer counseling, and teaching Sunday School.

He loved to sing and dance.

He was a great carpenter, craftsman and handy man.

He loved to golf and enjoyed birds, wildlife, and all God's creation.

His courage enduring much pain and suffering over many years was an inspiration to those who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include Carol, his wife of 51 years; sister, Lois (Gene) Medlar; six children, Vicki Davis, Arvid Knutsen, Steve (Ann) Long, Jonette (Gary) Wood, Andrew Long, Pamela (Kevin) Basham; 10 grandchildren, Darik and Jaryd Knutsen, Raedun (Gerardo) de Alba,  Christopher Janssen, Jim Davis, Holli (Shawn) Harvey,  David Long, Peggy Tiedemann, Caitlin and Kieran Basham; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Sylvan, George, Wendell, Harold; and sisters, Bernice Ostrander, Rogene Dvorak, Florence Wiebenga, and Marjorie McGinnis.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 16 at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Gary Blobaum officiating, with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 114 S. Fifth St., Oregon.

Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery, Oregon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Samaritan's Purse, or the charity of the giver's choice.
