Richard A. Nelson

Richard A. “Dick” Nelson, 75, Oregon, formerly of Chicago and the suburbs, died Friday, June 21, 2013 at Serenity Hospice and Home,Oregon.  

He was born  Nov. 27, 1937 in Chicago, the son of Raynard and Louise Franklin Nelson.  

He married Eleanor Vollmer in Chicago on May 26, 1962.

Dick worked at Borg Warner, Franklin Park, and Filtran/SPX, Des Plaines, before retiring.

He was in the U.S. Air Force from 1958-1962, was a member of the Oregon VFW Post 8739, and enjoyed traveling with his wife.  Survivors include his wife, Eleanor; daughters, Kari (Marty) Schultz, Trophy Club, Texas and Kristin (Josh) Echelbarger, Lawrenceville, Ga.; grandson, Noah Schultz; sisters, Mary Lou McLaughlin and Joan M. Nelson, both of Berkeley, Ill.; and brothers, Donald (Peg) Nelson, Dixon, and John (Sue) Nelso, Spring Hill, Fla.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Patricia Jones; and a brother, Lawrence.

A memorial service was held June 30 at Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, 110 S. Seventh St., Oregon. Memorials may be directed to Serenity Hospice and Home, 1658 S. IL Rt 2, Oregon, IL  61061.
