Gail J. Dirksen

Gail J. Dirksen, 75, Oregon, a lifetime Ogle County resident, died Monday, July 22, 2013 at St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockord.

She was born on Aug. 6, 1937 near Kings, the daughter of Lucas and Violet (Kivell) Hayenga.

She attended Kings Grade School and was a 1955 graduate of Rochelle High School.

Gail married Donald Dirksen on Aug. 1, 1970 in Oregon.

She worked for 24 years in the Ogle County Treasurer’s office where she retired as treasurer in 2000.

She was a member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church where she served in the Ladies Aid, was a Sunday School teacher, chairman of the Funeral Luncheon Committee, and treasurer.

In Gail’s spare time she enjoyed crafts, knitting, crocheting, gardening, and her dogs Babe and Sandy.

She is survived by her husband, Donald, Oregon; children, Doug (Diane) Meyers, Lost Nation, Melody Kirchner, Rockford, and Denise (Michael) Leonard, Belvidere; step-daughters, Susan Strickler, Oregon, Julie Logan, Winnebago, and Nancy (Ronald) Boyden, Oregon; sister-in-law, Sue Hayenga; brother-in-law, Reuben Barnhart; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her step-son, Dean Dirksen; brother, Manno; and sister-in-law, Mary Barnhart.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 25 at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer Reformed Church with Pastor Brion Brooks officiating with a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.

Visitation will also be held from Wednesday, July 24 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Farrell Holland Gale Funeral Home, Oregon.

Burial will be in White Rock Cemetery near Kings.

Memorials have been established for OSF Hospice Association and Serenity Hospice and Home.
