Carm Yocum

Carm Yocum, 86, longtime Mt. Morris resident, died Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Swedish-American Hospital, Rockford.

She was born April 12, 1927 in Mendota, the daughter of Leo and Hannah (Flaherty) Coss.

Carm was a graduate of Mendota High School and attended Sacred Heart Academy.

She married Russell W. Yocum July 30, 1949 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Mendota.

She was employed as a secretary at Disciples United Methodist Church, Mt. Morris, for several years, volunteered extensively for Lifeline Food Pantry and served on its board of directors, and was a baking judge for the Ogle County and 4-H Fairs.

Carm was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Oregon, and the Catholic Daughters of America.

She is survived by sons, David Yocum, Mt. Morris, Greg (Trish) Yocum, Fairbanks, Alaska, and Jim Yocum, Denver, Colo.; daughters, Maureen Slater, Colorado Springs, Colo., Yvonne Schmidt, Oregon, and Rose Yocum, St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, Greg, Joe, Michelle, Michael, Danny, Patrick, Rachel, Heidi, and Hannah; and great-grandchildren, Dravin, Caleb, Jacob, Brianne, Justin, and Dylan.

She was predeceased by her husband; parents; son, Michael; and sister, Lu.

Christian Funeral Mass will be held  Friday, Aug. 2 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Oregon with Rev. Joseph Naill as celebrant.

Burial will in St. Mary Cemetery, Oregon.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon, with an 8 p.m. rosary service.

Memorials may be directed to St. Mary Catholic Church, Oregon or Lifeline Food Pantry, Oregon.
