Sharon Bittinger

Sharon Bittinger, 67, Polo, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 at her home after a brief illness with cancer.

Sharon was born May 1, 1946 in Dixon, the daughter of Albert and Martha (Little) England.   She graduated from Dixon High School in 1964.

She worked for Anchor Coupling Company, Dixon and Sterling, from October 1973 to January 2009.

She also worked as a part-time rural mail carrier in Dixon for several years.  

She enjoyed making crafts and was a vendor at the Autumn on Parade craft show for more than 25 years.

She loved spending time with her family and friends.

She especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s school and sport activities.  

After retirement, she spent her time going to garage sales with family and friends.  

Sharon delighted her family with her great sense of humor, which was well known in the poetry she wrote about her family and life growing up.

Survivors include one daughter, Karen Merlak, Polo; one son, Larry “Ben” (Jo) Bittinger, Polo; three sisters, Janet (Ron) Bushman, Dixon, Linda (Paul) Erisman, Franklin Grove, and Bobbi (Jack) Deen, Leaf River; and five grandchildren, Stephanie, Matt, and Clint Merlak, and Hayden and Garrett Bittinger.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and her step-father, Leonard Warner.

At Sharon’s request, no visitation or funeral services will be held. Cremation rites have been accorded.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, Oct.  27  from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Dixon VFW, 1560 Franklin Grove Rd., Dixon. All who knew her are welcome to attend.

A memorial has been established.
