Known throughout Illinois as a perennial small school track and field power, Oregon reinforced that image with a state championship in the 1,600-meter relay and a fourth-place finish in team standings at the IHSA Class 1A track and field meet on May 25.
After throwing 97 pitches the day before in a sectional win, Cody Silverthorn was called by Eureka in the final two innings to preseve a 7-6 lead against Oregon in the IHSA Class 2A super-sectional.
Leading the way for the Oregon track and field team at the IHSA Class 1A meet in Charleston this weekend will be a No. 1 seeded 1,600-meter relay and pole vaulter Mark Schmidt.
Even though its sprint relays both missed qualifying for Saturday finals by one spot, it was a smashing success at the IHSA Class 1A state track and field meet for the Oregon girls.
